Cajun seasoning

When I served in the Navy I was stationed in Pensacola, Florida and would spend a great deal of my free time in New Orleans where I developed a love of Cajun food. There was something special about the seasoning and it is used on everything from alligator to soups. It is hard to explain the taste as it is so different from everything else I have tried.

Recently I’ve stumbled across several different recipes for making the seasoning and tried a few to find one that resembled what I remembered from my past. This one is super close. So far I’ve tried it on chicken, roasted potatoes and in a gumbo. I’m 3 for 3.

Cajun seasoning

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 1 tbsp thyme
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Stir all ingredients in a small bowl until well combined and store in an airtight container at room temperature.
