Bourbon Caramel Sauce

I had never realized how easy it was to make a caramel sauce but since stumbling across this recipe, I’ve been looking for an excuse to use it. The addition of bourbon gives it just a little bit of extra flavor. This makes a superb dip for fruits and works wonderfully for caramel apples. Put on top of ice cream for a special treat. For a non-adult caramel, you can make this without the bourbon. It’s just not as much fun!

Bourbon Caramel Sauce

  • Level: Easy
  • Prep Time: 5 min
  • Cook Time: 10 min

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 3 tablespoons bourbon
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, add sugar, honey, and bourbon. Stir occasionally.

  2. Bring mixture to a rolling boil. The mixture will deepen in color.

  3. Once it turns a deep brown color, pour the cream in.

  4. It will steam and bubble quite a bit. This is normal.

  5. After 30 seconds, remove it from the stove.

  6. Add salt and quickly stir until smooth.

  7. Let it cool before transferring to a glass storage container.
